Tollard Royal Winner of the Best Kept Village 2017

The villagers of Tollard Royal were delighted to welcome Anne Henshaw – Chairman Wiltshire Branch CPRE to the Best Kept Village Ceremony on October 1st 2017.

Mrs Sarah Troughton – President Wiltshire Branch CPRE and Lord-Lieutenant for Wiltshire unveiled the Standard and Shield which will remain in the Village for 12 months.

The sponsor of the whole competition (the Hills Group) have given us a lovely Plaque which was presented by Mr Peter Andrew, Group Director, The Hills Group.

Mr Andrew presented the plaque to Tony Crane and Pat Lamb, who received it on behalf of all of the villagers, and others who continue to keep the village tidy

The village also received Wiltshire Council Best Kept Village 2017 winner’s plaque, which we can keep in the village as a permanent reminder of our team effort. The plaque was presented to us by Cllr Allison Bucknell, who is Chairman of Wiltshire Council and was received by Bonny Shirley and some of the team who decorate the village and church with flowers.

We were awarded two framed certificates, one as District and One as County winners. Lady Penny Marland, High Sheriff of Wiltshire Presented the first framed CPRE Certificate to Elaine Roscoe and other members of the village social committee.

Anne Henshaw, Chairman of CPRE presented the second framed CPRE Certificate from the District Wiltshire Round. The village children received the award in recognition of their participation and help in the village.

George McDonic – the previous CPRE Chairman 1999 – 2015, ex chief planning officer for Wiltshire and now Vice president CPRE, joined our celebrations. He was a judge for 50 years and last here in 1967.

He said “the village is wonderful and was streets ahead of the competition”.

We should also thank CPRE, Mike Manson, all of the esteemed guests and presenters, and Ian Nelson for the photography on the day. Also thanks to John and Lyndall for their contribution of Champagne, The King John Inn for the pastries, Rushmore for coming along and allowing us to use The Old Cart Shed again.
